Patti Jane Lay
Experienced Attorney, Mediator and Special Master
Patti Jane Lay graduated with honors from Emory University in 1976 and the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1979. She has thirty-four years of trial experience and since 1996 has been a Supreme Court Rule 31 mediator in family law and general civil cases. She is a trained collaborative divorce attorney and a member of IACP (International Association of Collaborative Professionals) For over ten years, she has served as Special Master in Fourth Circuit Court, hearing order of protection cases on a monthly basis. She possesses a unique understanding of the court from the perspective of an attorney trying cases, mediating cases and as a Special Master hearing cases.
Personal Background
Ms. Lay grew up in Knoxville, living in the Fountain City and Bearden area. She graduated top of her class with honors from Webb School in 1973. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the honors program at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a double major in English and Political Science. In 1979, Ms. Lay received her law degree from the University of Tennessee where she was a member of the Tennessee Law Review and was a trial moot court winner. She and her husband, Tom Baugh, live in the Bearden area and have three children.
